Sun’s achievements of his three projects in medical research
have been proved From 1996 to 1998, Sun Jie Guang was invited to give lectures and perform research on tongue acupuncture in the United States of America. In January 1999, he took up an appointment as Research Officer in The Jockey Club Magnetic Resonance Imaging Engineering Centre of The University of Hong Kong. His appointment was subsequently approved by the Hong Kong Government as employment under the Talents Scheme. Sun was also appointed as Professor by the China Acupuncture Moxibustion Professor Association and New York China Traditional Medical Centre. He is currently the team leader of a national scientific research project on traditional Chinese medicine and pharmacology, the subject of which comprises the principles of tongue acupuncture in treating brain diseases in children as well as the correlation between tongue acupoints and corresponding areas of the brain. Sun works presently for Hong Kong International Tongue Acupuncture Research Clinic as Research Director. Sun Jie Guang has participated in the compilation of a series of books on orthopaedic traumatology, among which he is the chief editor of Necrosis of Head of Femur. He is also one of the compilers of A Guide to Pain Medicine published by the Hong Kong University Press. In the past years, Sun has successively presented over 20 scientific papers in such international journals and conferences as the Chinese Journal of Sports Medicine, the European Journal of Paediatric Neurology as well as the 4th and 5th World Conference on Acupuncture. The manuscript of his monograph The Study of Tongue Acupuncture has been completed. It will be published in due course. In 1996, Sun delivered a speech on the impact of tongue acupuncture on the well being of mankind and its significant application in modern medicine at the United Nations Building on invitation of the Chinese Traditional Medicine and Health Society of the United Nations. A plaque of honour was awarded to him subsequently in recognition of his work. In 2001, Sun obtained a patent for his development of a desensitizing chewing gum. His declaration for seven other patents has also been registered. Sun’s invention and research on tongue acupuncture treatment have been followed with interest and extensively reported by mass media of the world. Among these media are Reuters, Reuters Media and The Times of the UK, CNN and Discovery Channel of the US, Xin Hua News Agency and the People’s Daily of the Mainland and many other media in Hong Kong.
