Mission Professor Sun Jie Guang has been doing research on tongue acupuncture for over two decades. He was invited to collaborate with the Jockey Club MRI Engineering Centre of The University of Hong Kong on the new treatment during the nineties. As the initial research has already been completed, Hong Kong International Tongue Acupuncture Research Clinic was founded in July 2003 to facilitate continuous research on and development of tongue acupuncture treatment in Hong Kong and around the world. In the coming years, the research clinic aims to achieve the following targets: 1. determining the accurate locations of various acupoints; 2. conducting clinical research on mental retardation, Parkinson’s disease, visual impairment, optical atrophy and depression as well as follow-up study on infantile autism; and 3. conducting fundamental research on the basic principles of tongue acupuncture. His unique work Practical Tongue Acupuncture has just been published. Subsequent to the publication, training courses on tongue acupuncture will be conducted both locally and abroad to popularize and spread the new knowledge and technique as widely as possible. The operation of an outpatient clinic not only constitutes a base for research and training, but also provides treatment for sufferers of various diseases that are difficult to cure.
